Escalator Futures is a free arts training programme, supported by the Arts Council England, East and the Learning and Skills Council, for talented individuals aged between 16 and 18.

Those people who are lucky enough to be selected, will be invited to attend a week long arts event happening at the University of Hertfordshire and the East 15 acting school, part of University of Essex, where they will work with professional artists, showcase their work and - potentially - be selected for a six month, customised training programme.

The six months training program will be written specifically for them and will give them the opportunity to:

  • Undertake a work placement in a local creative industry relevant to their art-form
  • BBC Blast will offer training and opportunities to showcase their work
  • Hear how other artists made a career in the arts and learn how to develop business, marketing and financial skills
  • Work alongside some of the best practising artists around and develop their skills through practical workshops.
  • Experience professional arts opportunities visiting the latest shows, exhibitions and performances
  • Information and guidance on careers in the arts and training or qualifications available to them
  • Artists mentoring
  • Develop new work and showcase the results in a final celebration event next Easter - industry, employers and arts agencies will be invited along to view their portfolios.
